How to Apply Adhesive Vinyl from a Roll

Whether it's for advertising or just for fun, applying adhesive vinyl to all kinds of objects is becoming more and more popular. But applying adhesive vinyl is never a simple task, and it needs to be done right if you want results that will last a very long time!

Here are the 5 steps to apply your vinyl successfully.

Step 1: Choose Your Design

The first step is simply to choose the design you want and load it into your cutting machine (for example, a Silhouette Cameo or a Cricut). When choosing your design, if you're just starting out, we recommend picking something simple that won't be hard to weed. During this step, be sure to carefully check the size of the design you're cutting as well as the size of your surface.

Step 2: Cut the Vinyl

Cut a piece from your vinyl roll and place it on your machine's gridded cutting mat, which will hold it in place during cutting.

Then load the cutting mat with your piece of adhesive vinyl (also known as sticker vinyl**)** into the machine and cut out your logo.

Cutting settings can vary depending on the material you're cutting, so we recommend doing a test cut on a small piece of vinyl first to see whether your settings are right.

Step 3: Weed the Vinyl

Weeding means removing the excess vinyl after cutting.

To do this, slowly and gently peel away the excess vinyl (everything that isn't part of your design).

Once that's done, use tweezers to remove the small bits of adhesive vinyl still stuck to the design.

Take your time during this step so you don't damage your design.

Step 4: Transfer the Design

Take a piece of transfer tape the size of your logo and apply it over your entire design.

The transfer tape lets you move your design onto the object of your choice.

We recommend using gridded transfer tape for more precise placement.

Once you've placed the tape on the design, and before peeling it off, go over your design again with a squeegee. This helps your logo stick perfectly to the tape.

Step 5: Apply the Vinyl

Now take the object you want to apply the design to and gently lay the tape on it. All that's left is to go over it one more time with your squeegee, and you're done!
