After scouring Google (and getting lost in a sea of more-or-less helpful advice 🌊), I finally found some truly practical solutions. There's very little content about Cricut or Silhouette storage in French on blogs. Could it be that this problem only affects English speakers? 😅 So I figured that we French speakers deserve some tips for storing our rolls too. I tested a few solutions, and I'm going to share them with you! Here are my best finds for making the most of your space without blowing your budget.

Before, I didn't have a dedicated room for my custom projects, so there was no storage for my machine or supplies, and I had to improvise some homemade Cricut storage … I had to find workarounds so my living room wouldn't turn into the DIY aisle at Cultura. 😅

And even though I recently got a dedicated room, I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to organize their workspace. And let's not forget the main goal: not emptying my entire piggy bank on it. 💸 That's why our friend Ikea is such a great ally. (And a shout-out to its buddy Le Bon Coin, which is great for finding functional furniture that's really cheap).

So here are my made-in-Sweden ideas:

1️⃣ The Alex Drawers: Super Handy Storage 🫳

Who hasn't dropped one roll and watched helplessly as the rest followed like dominoes? 🫣

If you have a desk, the ALEX is a "must-have," especially if you want a custom desk. A wooden desktop in whatever size you want, two drawer units, and ta-da! That's how my dear, beloved desk was born, the one you'll probably see a lot in the photos in these articles. (Believe it or not, I got my two Trofast units for 15 euros instead of 200 on leboncoin. The deal of the century!)

And speaking of the drawers, it's such a joy to have everything within reach! When inspiration strikes, you just pull out a drawer and the magic happens. For example, you could organize your drawers by color:

• The first level has the pink HTV rolls,
• The second has the blue vinyl
• And so on.

Super handy, right?

While testing, I managed to fit 12 rolls in the smallest drawers and 24 in a large one. It all depends on the size of your supplies and how you organize them. Cricut storage approved, as far as I'm concerned. But if you already have a ready-made desk and no space … NEXT!

• Holds long rolls, up to 55 cm
• Several drawer sizes for different thicknesses (10cm tall for the 2 smallest vs. 15cm for the 3 biggest drawers)

❌ Cons:

• Pricey if you buy new
• Takes up space in your craft room
• If you stack too many rolls, the ones on the bottom get hidden
• If you have too many different sizes, it can get messy

2️⃣ The Kallax Shelf Unit: A Really Effective Way to Get Organized 📚

Never heard of the famous Kallax? 😳 Then you must be living under a rock. 😂

Shoes, books, kids' toys … Its superpower? You can use it for everything. I bought a huge one so I could store all my DIY supplies, and it's definitely one of the investments that's paid off the most for me!

When it comes to actually storing heat transfer vinyl, you have several options.

I chose to add inserts with four shelves.

They're made to fit each cube perfectly.

No hassle: you just slide them in, and you're done.

There's 6 cm between each shelf, which is more than enough for rolls of heat transfer vinyl.

It's a bit of a pricey solution if you add a lot of them (each insert costs 30€). BUT I managed to store 45 rolls in a single cube. That's more than optimized Cricut or Silhouette storage for your HTV and vinyl. For me, it's totally APPROVED!

💰Estimated cost breakdown: 30€ for 45 rolls stored = 0.67€ per roll stored

✅ Pros:

• The HTV rolls are neatly organized side by side
• There's plenty of height for big rolls

❌ Cons:

• A bit pricey, since you also have to buy the Kallax
• It's hard to see what you've stored inside

3️⃣ The Variera Bag Dispenser: THE Must-Have Gem for Storing Your Rolls 💎

I'll admit the Variera is kind of my favorite storage solution 🤩

Super handy, lightweight, and above all really cheap, it lets you store 14 rolls for just 1.99€. Yes, you read that right! It's like getting a designer handbag for 10€, but for roll storage. Now that's a great deal!

Good to know: each slot measures 5 cm.

I have no trouble at all fitting my 3.5 or 4 cm rolls in it.

The plastic is sturdy!

And there are a couple of ways to install it:

• Screw it to the wall
• Use the adhesive tape that comes with it

I'll be honest, I don't trust that double-sided tape (and I don't want my wall looking like Swiss cheese either), so I went with a miracle solution: 3M removable mounting strips. To be extra safe, I used 4 large strips rated for 7.2kg. It's holding up really well, and nothing has fallen so far (fingers crossed). That said, if you have textured walls, forget the tape 😉

There's nothing prettier than gorgeous rolls all lined up and displayed like a work of art!

✅ Pros:

• Besides storing your rolls, it's a way to show off your prettiest HTV
• Very cheap

❌ Cons:

• Roll size is limited
• If a roll is too big, it gets stuck

4️⃣ The Skadis Pegboards: If You Want a 100% Modular Setup, Look No Further. 🎨

Ikea revolutionized desk setups with these pegboards and made life easier for makers, because the possibilities are endless. Their biggest strength? They're modular!

That means you can adapt the Skadis pegboards to your products, which is really nice! I went with a 76cm-wide pegboard that I use to hold my tools, but there are accessories that can hold rolls too.

I tested 2 of them for you:

• the long hooks
• the wire basket

Both options hold rolls really well and are perfect for anyone who likes to stay organized.

The hooks can hold 3 rolls, and the basket can store about 8 rolls of HTV or adhesive vinyl.

It's hard to estimate an exact cost, since everyone can set up the pegboard to suit their needs. It's not my main storage system, it's more of a way to display my favorite HTV. (You'll see it's also going to be the backdrop for my social media videos).

This solution is both adorable and affordable (15€ for the pegboard without accessories).

So if you love being able to customize your craft room 100%, go for it!

5️⃣ The Kuggis Magazine File: Who Says It's Only for Papers? 📂

Use things for what they were designed for? Not really my style!

I love the idea of repurposing an object and turning it into storage. My original goal was to hide my stock so no one could tell that part of my living room back then was also my workshop.

💡 The Kuggis magazine file was the perfect solution to my problem:

• on one side, you can see the rolls when you're ready to customize something
• on the other, everything is neatly hidden.

The advantage? Everything stays nice and upright.

The HTV stays in place, it's easy to put away, and you can line up several of them side by side.

I picked this plastic model because it's really sturdy, but there are cardboard ones that can do the job just as well.

It's 12.99€ for 2 magazine files. It's not the cheapest solution, I'll give you that, but it was really handy because I managed to fit 12 rolls in each one. What do you think?

⭐ Storage Furniture for Cricut and Other Machines: The Holy Grail If You're Short on Space. 🛠️

I've never been lucky enough to own a Cricut storage unit like this one, but it's the dream solution for small spaces. 😍

You can find all kinds of models where you can set your Cricut, your tools, and even your HTV rolls. It's an all-in-one solution that's just amazing for small rooms! It costs more, but it's a turnkey solution that only needs to be assembled.

🔧 Otherwise, do what I did: find a handy partner 😆 (or be one, that's even better) and build a custom unit. And if neither of those is an option… well, pray that putting it together doesn't end in a meltdown. 🤯

Mine isn't finished yet. It's more of a prototype, but it's going to get better. Once we set it up and started using it, we realized it wasn't perfect.

But it does what I need it to do:

• Store 2 machines in as little space as possible
• Make my machines more convenient to use

My Cameo and my Maker each have their own little spot. When I use a machine, I pull the unit out so it's no longer against the wall. Honestly, we're pretty proud of it 😊. Clever, don't you think?

⭐ Boxes and Magazine Files from Action: Perfect for Storing Scraps. 📂

But what about the scraps?! 😱 They often end up as a puzzle that's impossible to put back together.

When you like to use every last bit of your supplies, you need an effective storage system.

Action is a dream store for boxes: you'll find a huge storage aisle there. And if the solution you find is pretty too, we L-O-V-E it. So I went with small stackable storage boxes where I can sort my HTV.

Another super handy option: the magazine file. You can sort by color, and the scraps can be bigger (A4 size maximum). Plus, it fits nicely in desk drawers or on shelves. I find this option really useful! 🎯
