πŸ“Œ Cricut Storage: 10 amazing tips to organize your rolls of HTV and vinyl! ✨

No Cricut storage at home? Your rolls of HTV and vinyl are taking over your space? You waste time hunting for the right color? 😱 I've tracked down some solutions that will help you organize your office / workshop like a pro!

I don't know about you, but at my place, the rolls of heat-transfer vinyl and adhesive vinyl pile up just about everywhere. Between the tubes rolling around, the offcuts lying about, and the lack of space, it's often total chaos. Who hasn't turned their whole workshop upside down to find THE perfect roll? πŸ™ƒ

β†’ Head this way if you don't know the difference between HTV and vinyl

After scouring Google (and getting lost in an ocean of more or less useful advice 🌊), I finally found some genuinely practical solutions. There's very little content about Cricut or Silhouette storage in French on the blogs, you'd think this problem only affects English speakers? πŸ˜… So I told myself that we French speakers also deserve to have tips for storing our rolls. So I tested some solutions that I'm going to share with you! Here are my best finds to optimize your space without blowing your budget.

πŸ’‘ Because the more organized we are, the freer our mind is to create.

Let me introduce myself, I'm Nina, the newest addition at Paper Transfer. ✨ Freshly arrived in January 2025, I'm in charge of guiding you through blog articles, finding you tips, and passing on Paper Transfer's know-how about textile personalization. At the same time, you'll find me on Paper Transfer's social media replying to your messages and comments, but also through the email newsletters in particular: because writing is my thing! But what I love above all is creating, customizing, and doing DIY! βœ‚οΈ Alright, let's go:

➑️ Ikea, the king of Cricut storage for rolls of HTV and vinyl 🏑

Before, I didn't have a dedicated room for my customization workshop, so no storage for my machine and my supplies, and I had to improvise a home-made Cricut storage … I had to find workarounds so my living room wouldn't turn into the DIY aisle at Cultura. πŸ˜…

And even though I recently got a dedicated room, I'm surely not the only one who wants to organize my workspace. Without forgetting the main goal: not to spend my whole piggy bank on it. πŸ’Έ So our friend Ikea is a very good ally. (A little thought too for its buddy Le Bon Coin, which is great for finding functional furniture that's really cheap).

So here are my made in Sweden ideas:

1️⃣ The Alex drawers: great storage in one swift move 🫳

Who hasn't dropped a roll and watched helplessly as the rest followed like dominoes? 🫣

When you have a desk, the ALEX is a "must have". Especially if you want a custom desk. A wooden worktop in the size you want, two drawer units, and tada! That's how my dear and beloved desk was born, the one you'll probably see often in the articles' photos. (Believe it or not, but I got my two Trofast for 15 euros instead of 200 on leboncoin. The deal of the century!)

ALEX DRAWERS IKEA

And if we focus on the drawers, then what a joy to have everything within reach! When you have an idea, you just pull out a drawer and the magic happens. You could create drawers organized by color, for example:

  • On the first level there are the pink HTV rolls,
  • On the second there are the blue vinyls
  • And so on.

Super handy, isn't it?

While testing, I managed to fit 12 rolls in the smallest drawers and 24 in a large drawer. It all depends on the size of your supplies and your organization. A Cricut storage unit approved as far as I'm concerned. But on the other hand, if you already have a ready-made desk and no space … NEXT!

πŸ’°Estimated quantity / price ratio: 99€ for 96 rolls stored = 1.03€ per roll stored

βœ… The positives:

  • Easy access: everything is within reach
  • Lets you store long rolls, up to 55 cm
  • Several drawer sizes to adapt to different thicknesses (10cm high for the 2 smallest versus 15cm for the 3 largest drawers)

❌ The negatives:

  • High price if you buy new
  • Takes up space in the workshop
  • If you stack too many rolls, the ones underneath are hidden
  • If you have too many different sizes it can get messy

2️⃣ The Kallax shelving unit: a very effective organization solution πŸ“š

You've never heard of the famous Kallax? 😳 Then you live in a cave. πŸ˜‚

Shoes, books, children's toys … Its strength? It can be used for everything. I bought a huge one, to be able to store all my DIY material, and it's one of the investments I've gotten the most out of, for sure!

KALLAX INSERT IKEA

Concretely, to store heat-transfer vinyl, several possibilities exist.

I chose to insert modules that have four shelves.

They're custom-made for each cube.

No fuss, you push them in and that's it.

The space between each board is 6 cm, which is more than enough for rolls of heat-transfer vinyl.

It's a slightly costly solution if you put in a lot (each module costs 30€). BUT I managed to store 45 rolls in a single compartment. It's a Cricut or Silhouette storage for your HTV and vinyls that is more than optimized. For me it's really APPROVED!

πŸ’°Estimated quantity / price ratio: 30€ for 45 rolls stored = 0.67€ per roll stored

βœ… The positives:

  • The HTV rolls are nicely organized next to each other
  • There's a lot of height for the big rolls

❌ The negatives:

  • A bit pricey because on top you have to buy the Kallax
  • You have little visibility on what you've stored inside

3️⃣ The Variera bag dispenser: THE gem to have for storing your rolls πŸ’Ž

I'll admit that the Variera is a bit of my favorite storage 🀩

Super handy, lightweight, and above all really cheap, it will let you store 14 rolls for only 1.99€. Yes, you read that right! It's like having a luxury bag for 10€ but for roll storage. Now there's a good deal!

VARIERA IKEA

Good to know that each cell measures 5 cm.

I have no trouble at all fitting my 3.5 or 4 cm rolls in there.

The plastic is sturdy!

And there are several installation options:

  • Screw it to the wall
  • Use the adhesive tape provided

I'll admit I don't trust this double-sided tape (and I also don't want my wall to look like Swiss cheese), so I went for the miracle solution: the 3M repositionable strips. For extra safety I used 4 large strips to support 7.2kg. It holds very well, nothing has fallen so far (fingers crossed). Well, for textured walls forget about the tape πŸ˜‰

How beautiful it is to see lovely rolls all lined up and displayed like a work of art!

πŸ’°Estimated quantity / price ratio: 1.99€ for 14 rolls stored = 0.14€ per roll stored

βœ… The positives:

  • On top of storing, it's a way to display your most beautiful HTV
  • Very cheap

❌ The negatives:

  • The roll size is limited
  • If the roll is too big then it gets stuck

4️⃣ The Skadis pegboards: if you're looking for 100% modularity, head this way. 🎨

Ikea revolutionized desk layouts with these pegboards and made life easier for makers, because the possibilities are endless. Their great strength? Modularity!

So you'll be able to adapt the Skadis pegboards to your products, which is really nice! I went for a pegboard 76cm wide that I use as a support for my tools, but there are accessories that can hold rolls.

SKADIS IKEA

I tested 2 of them for you:

  • the long hooks
  • the mesh basket

Both solutions hold the rolls very well and are perfect for an organized person.

On the hooks, you can put 3 rolls, in the basket, you can store about 8 rolls of HTV or adhesive vinyl.

It's hard to estimate a precise cost because everyone can adapt the pegboard to their needs. It's not my official way of storing, it's more a way to display my favorite HTV. (You'll see that it will also be the backdrop for my videos for social media).

This solution is both adorable and affordable (15€ for the pegboard without accessories).

So if you like being able to personalize your workshop 100%, go for it!

πŸ’°Estimated quantity / price ratio for the hooks: 2€ for 3 rolls stored = 0.67€ per roll stored

βœ… The positives:

  • Adapts to all situations
  • Possible not to drill the wall and to keep it on the worktop

❌ The negatives:

  • If it's too heavy you'll have to hang it on the wall
  • The more accessories there are, the higher the bill goes

5️⃣ The Kuggis magazine file: who said we absolutely had to store papers in it? πŸ“‚

Use objects for what they were designed for? Not really my thing!

I love the idea of repurposing an object to turn it into storage. My original goal was to hide my stock so you couldn't tell that part of my living room back then was also my workshop.

πŸ’‘ The Kuggis magazine file was the ready-made solution to my problem:

  • on one side you see the rolls when you want to do some personalization
  • on the other, everything is nicely hidden.

KUGGIS IKEA

The advantage? Everything is nice and straight.

The HTV is held in place, it stores easily, you can line up several units side by side.

I selected this plastic model, because it's very sturdy, but there are cardboard ones that can do the job just fine.

It's 12.99€ for the 2 magazine files, it's not the least costly solution I'll grant you, but it was really handy because I managed to store 12 rolls in each. What do you think?

πŸ’°Estimated quantity / price ratio: 6€ for 12 rolls stored = 2€ per roll stored

βœ… The positives:

  • Sturdy
  • Easy to store, takes up little space
  • Holds the rolls in place

❌ The negatives:

  • Expensive
  • The number of products stored is quickly limited

➑️ Action and Amazon, for fans of spot-on organization for a superb Cricut storage. πŸ›οΈ

Storing your rolls, that's great! But we're also looking for tips to put down our machines, store our tools, or even organize the offcuts of heat-transfer vinyl or adhesive vinyl. Through experience and research, I found little tips that make my life easier, I'm sharing them with you here.

⭐ Storage furniture for Cricut or other machines: the holy grail if you don't have much space. πŸ› οΈ

I've never had the luck of owning a Cricut storage unit like this one, but it's the dream solution for small spaces. 😍

You'll be able to find very varied models, on which you can place your Cricut, your tools, and even arrange rolls of HTV. An all-in-one solution that is just incredible for small rooms! The budget is bigger but it's a turnkey solution that just requires some assembly.

AMAZON FURNITURE CRICUT STORAGE

πŸ”§ Otherwise, do like me: find a handy partner πŸ˜† (or be one, that's even better), and build a custom unit. And if neither of those is an option… well, pray that the assembly doesn't end in a nervous breakdown. 🀯

Mine isn't finished, it's more of a prototype, but it will be improved. By setting it up and using it we realized it wasn't perfect.

But it fulfills the desired functions:

  • Store 2 machines in minimal space
  • Make using my machines more practical

My Cameo and my Maker have their little spot. I pull the unit out so it's no longer against the wall when I use a machine. Honestly, we're pretty proud 😊. Clever, don't you think?

⭐ The boxes and magazine files from Action: ideal for storing offcuts. πŸ“‚

Storing the rolls: that's done βœ”οΈ

But the offcuts?! 😱 They often end up as an impossible-to-reassemble puzzle.

When you like to use your supplies down to the last bit, you need an effective storage system.

Action is the dream store for boxes, you'll find a huge storage aisle there. And if on top of that the solution you find is pretty, then we L-O-V-E it. So I went for little stackable storage boxes in which I can sort the HTV.

Another very handy option: the magazine file. You can sort by color, and the offcuts can be larger (A4 format maximum). On top of that it stores very well in office or shelving drawers. I find this option really useful! 🎯

And you, how do you store your offcuts?

ACTION OFFCUTS CRICUT STORAGE

⭐ The little drawer units and decorations: when you're creative you can store your tools everywhere.πŸ”§

ACTION DRAWERS CRICUT STORAGE

A little bonus, how can we store the tools?

The drawer units:

  • Super handy
  • Lots of tools stored
  • Easily accessible.

I found mine at Action as well. The bonus? You can customize each drawer by putting a vinyl sticker on it to indicate the contents. That way, no more "Oh darn, I put my scissors in the pen drawer again!". πŸ˜… Top-notch organization.

🌈 And for fans of pretty decorations: you can also repurpose a vase to hold the tools you use most often. You can combine the useful and the pleasant to have a pretty desk. The important thing is to feel good and for everything to be easily accessible.
